Lucy's last day of school

Lucy also had her last day of school on Thursday last week. They had a big party in their class, ate some yummy food, and took lots of pictures. Almost all of Lucy's friends are coming back next year for Year 1 (i.e. Kindergarten), and 16 new kids too. Next year Lucy's teacher is going to be Mr. Haig, and we're very excited - he's a goofy Scottish guy. Lucy's good friends Vivi, Filip, and Sophia are in her class... and Clark will be just down the hall!

Clark's last day of school

Today was Clark's last day of school and end of year program. He played a cow that tried to help a farmer get his tractor unstuck out of the mud. He was very excited and did an amazing job. They just sang a few songs and of course had a party outside in the garden that included lunch, bright hot shining sun and running. We have loved Clark's school and teachers but he is now moving on to Riverside with Lucy. He is super excited for his new adventure and his new uniform!

hi

I have just found my tongue and when I smile I like to stick out my tongue instead of waving. Mommy tried to get a picture of that but I had already stuck my tongue and waved to her earlier so I just watched her try everything to get me to do it again and laughed to myself. Maybe some day she will get a picture of it!

time with Mrs. Skopkova

On of Lucy and Clark's favorite people is Mrs. Skopkova, she is our 70 year old neighbor who lives upstairs. On Saturday she came downstairs and spent some time with the kids in the garden playing games. We are all really grateful for each other as Mrs. Skopkova's grandchildren all live in America.
On a side note Lucy has taken a fancy to braids in her hair. It doesn't matter where they are or how many but at any given time she has braids in her hair.

Parties Parties Parties

The last week has been filled with Parties! Welcome party for our summer interns, goodbye parties for friends, end of year school parent parties, and class parties. Last week Clark's school has a cookout in the garden for their end of the year party. We chatted and ate yummy food and just let the kids run around. It has been a busy season but the Davises are always up for a good party.

Father's Day

Sunday was a great day of celebrating Phil and the amazing Father that he is. Lucy and Clark wrote a Top 10 list of reasons why they love their daddy, he got to sleep in, had a yummy pancake breakfast and we just hung out around the house before church, celebrating him! Phil is a very kind and gentle man and embraces his role as daddy, he loves spending time with each of the kids and they so feel it. He is funny and always has time for tickles or a game of Uno. He is a great leader and is the perfect man for us. We love you daddy! Thank you for all that you do for us and all the ways you love us!

(sing) ...A 6-hour tour, a 6-hour tour...

We went with a bunch of teachers from Riverside to Cesky Krumlov on Saturday, a popular destination because of the quaint city and rafting down the river in warm weather. Quaint? Yes. Rafting? Yes. Warm weather? Not so much. It was actually quite cold during the day, but that didn't stop the fun. We left the kids behind - Miss Nina watched them all day while we were gone.

Our raft was a nice black and yellow number which we nicknamed "Stinger" - also the name of Clark's bike. Eric and I took up the back until we realized that we were actually in the front, so we all just simply rotated 180 degrees in our seats.

The trip was a leisurely 6 hour tour down the Vltava River, the same one that flows through Prague. (At times we felt like we should have arrived back in Prague.) There were numerous stops along the way with beer and sausage for sale, campfires, and several Confederate flags?!? We didn't figure that one out. Even though the weather wasn't the best, we had lots of fun and laughter, and we definitely want to do it again. Cesky Krumlov was very pretty too, so we'd like to go back and explore there some more.
Here's the Google Map I copied with our route, which I painted blue...

another one bites the dust

One of the hardest things about living here is saying goodbye, it is a constant revolving door of hellos and goodbyes. And yet with each new hello there is lots of possibilities as to how God will use that person in our lives. We are still learning how to embrace people no matter how long we will live life together in Prague and when the time comes for them to move on how to say goodbye well. Well saying goodbye well means having a party, sending in prayer and toasting to what God has in store. Friday night was no different, we sent are dear friends Kurt and Sara back to Arizona. They have been a HUGE source of encouragement, laughter, great depth. They have truly been a part of our community and we will miss them so much!

Miss P.

Piper is our sweet giggly girl. She loves to laugh and reminds us so much of both Lucy and Clark when they were little. Her cheeks are definitely Lucy's but they all three look so much alike. We are just enjoying her each day and what she brings to our life... lots of smiles and lots of funny noises from her newly found tongue. She is great and we LOVE her.

sun

The kids got up early the sun was shining so by 7:30 they had their suits on ready for the pool... then the clouds came but it didn't stop us, as you know we are pool crazed so we headed to the new indoor water park, Aqua Palace. It was amazing!! They had slides, lazy river, huge kids swimming pools (yes more then one), fun wave pool, great lounge chairs (a rarity in the cz), food, ice cream, hot tubs, saunas, waterfalls.... it ws so fun! As you can tell, we are starting Piper young!

Summer Fayre

It's that time of year again - when those crazy Brits start spelling words like "Fair" all weird. There's a reason it's called "Old" English. Anyway, Riverside had it's Nearing-the-end-of-the-year Summer Fayre, which was even more fun than we'd hoped.

Lucy and Clark basically had extreme makeovers - featuring face-painting, hair crimping, and hair coloring (green for Lucy, orange for Clark).

If that wasn't enough, there was food, ice cream, pony rides (Clark rode his 1st pony ever), t-shirt tie-dyes, and live music.

It was a beautiful day and lots of fun for everyone!

Overwhelmed

So last night we were supposedly having a team dinner over at our friends' (Kurt and Sara) flat. Shanna and I were actually early, so had a drink at an outdoor cafe first. We happened to notice several people from church walk by over the course of 15 minutes, one of whom joined us and explained what she was doing in the neighborhood.
She lied, along with a few other people we talked to yesterday. We got to Kurt and Sara's, the rest of the team got there, and we walked up to the common terrace for dinner - SUPRISE! About 30 people from church (including the people we'd just seen) were there to celebrate...the team!

It was quite moving - Kurt gave a beautiful intro to the evening and said how grateful they've been for us and the church. Phil (that's the Other Phil, a.k.a. Smart Phil) and Danielle also played a major role in the planning. Before dessert they presented all of us with a nice looking coffee table book of Prague, except it was full of pictures of us and the church. They'd had them made online and delivered to Prague for this event. Truly amazing.

We are so blessed to be working with this church - a group that has really become our Faith Community!

Thanks for a beautiful night we'll never forget!

Just 2 more monkeys

I (Phil) went with Clark's school to the zoo on Friday - yes, we go to the zoo a lot. In fact we have a family annual pass. This was good zoo day - we got to see lots of animals, and Clark had fun with his friends and teachers from school. Even after the rest of the kids went home, Clark and I stuck around and went to see a few more things.

We did the riverboat taxi to get there, which was exciting in itself...

Clark rode a mini-tram with his teachers...

And our favorite moment was when a polar bear did a big flop into the water and swam right up to us - Clark jumped but then laughed really hard...

It was a very special day for us boys. We needed some boy time, now that we're outnumbered at home. Clark is a sweet, special little guy - but still boy through and through. In other words, he usually gets himself into trouble for not being gentle around Piper or being rough with Lucy - but then he'll make sure the girls are OK.

He keeps me laughing all the time, even if I can't understand what he's talking about. In fact, that's when he's at his funniest - he's been known to say, "Only Jesus knows what I'm talking about." How true.

pool

We spent Saturday and Sunday lounging by the pool. Highlights include friends, laughter, kids having fun, Lucy riding the big slide by herself, Clark on the rope swing, everyone including Piper in the big pool, Piper taking a nap in her tent, and ice cream. Does it get much better?
