Shanna wins...

Alternate titles for this blog:
- Our most recent convert
- New prayer card picture
- Every husband's worst nightmare
- Stalker mission complete

Shanna wins our family contest of "Who can be most famous?" Although my arm did make its internet debut with the paparazzi, Shanna got this picture snapped today - the last day of Clark's school. Sadly, this is probably the last we'll see of Brangelina on their Prague adventure - they leave in a week. Maybe Clark and their kids will become pen pals.

Ahoy mateys!

Today after school it was every princess and pirate for themselves... Clark and Lucy have been watching Peter Pan and are taking walking the plank very seriously. Clark has his mec (cz for sword) and runs at high speed to catch the princess! There are lots and lots of squeals until the sword makes a stab!

FUN FUN FUN

We are just finishing the last week of school and it has been a season of lots of fun... we have had mutiple field trips, lots of play dates, and just some silly afternoons... here are just a few sneak peaks into our last few weeks.

The team keeps growing...

Here's some exciting news...

As the Team Grows...

Yay! Mark and Joanna Stewart arrived in Prague last night, after a farily heinous travel experience from the States, not to mention 22 months of living in America getting ready to move here! We're ecstatic that they made it - Mark said that little Sasha (1 1/2 years) probably thought that "Prague" was actually an airport, with all the time they spent waiting en route.
We had a welcome dinner for them with a couple of interns, including Luke - who now looks a little different. To his credit, a couple of us backed out of the whole hair-coloring thing to welcome Mark (Mr. Crazy Hair) - Luke stayed strong!

Yet another school party

Even though Lucy's school STILL hasn't finished for the year (next week is the last week), there was an end-of-year party at a swanky office on the top floor of a cool building. There were great views of the city, not to mention lots of good food and dancing. Well, the dancing was... interesting. Who knew that Tom Jones and Spandau Ballad were so hard to dance to? I've never heard so much obscure 80s British pop in my life.

Struggling with Fame

I mean, the paparazzi have really made my life difficult. On Friday when I took Clark to school, there they were dashing across the street as we arrived. We managed to slip right past them - some guy named Brad was there to distract them from us. After Brad and I lamented the price that we have to pay with our fame, we left and had to fight them off again.

You can click HERE to see Brad at school and then click on the link for the video of him dropping off Pax and Zahara, or you can just click HERE for the video. At about the 50 second mark in the video, you'll recognize a familiar arm make its way into the screen on the left. That's all the paparazzi managed to get of me - what a struggle for privacy we have!

Tuesday Supper Club

Tuesday nights are now all about eating. This week we took food to a nearby park, where we enjoyed a fantastic evening playing ultimate frisbee, talking, and challenging each other to do stupid things on children's playground equipment.

The interns arrived at the same time, looking like they own this city...
Then we moved to the park...
Chris and Drew doing things that we constantly tell Owen and Clark to not do...

Same Church, New Building

Faith Community Church moved to a new building on Sunday. There were several reasons, all positive. The biggest reason is that now there's a designated children's space, complete with little chairs, desks, and arts&crafts. (Another Czech church uses the building in the mornings) We'll miss the cafe, but this place definitely feels like a start-up church, in a good way.
Worship was really fun, especially with the interns helping out. And after church, the kids got to try out the mikes and realized that people will notice you even more with a microphone in your hand.

Summer Lovin'

We hosted an engagement party for Tim and Laura, whom you may remember as the couple who survived our engagement counseling earlier this year. In addition to being very cool people, they're both JMU grads and quite tall. Laura teaches at Riverside School and Tim plays basketball here with Athletes in Action. They've also been attending our new church. The party was great - lots of their friends came over, they opened presents, and performed fairly well for a "Newlywed-style" game, answering questions about each other. We're excited for them and their wedding this summer, AND that they're coming back to Prague in the fall!

Summer Fayre

I'm sure there's something British about the spelling, but Lucy's school had a big "Summer Fayre" on Saturday, with arts & crafts, games, pony rides, and more fun. It was HOT but great fun - Lucy and Clark each made a glitter mask - but Clark looked a little less tough with his muscle t-shirt, temporary tattoo, and glitter.

Pomp and Circumstance, Mini Style

Clark's preschool had their "graduation" ceremony this week. There was a skit by the older kids ("Sleeping Beauty") and songs from all the kids. Clark never really warmed up to their music teacher this year, so he stood near us during the singing. But he wore the green Greentree cap with pride!

The Eagle has Landed

President Bush (and Laura) arrived in Prague last night to great publicity, mostly negative. They landed around 8:45 last night, and we heard helicopters for about an hour flying overhead as their motorcade rolled to the Hilton in town. There have been demonstrations, more demonstrations, and even demonstrations in preparation for the demonstrations.

Bush is not a very popular guy right now here in Prague. The US wants to set up a military base here outside of the city, which would be a missile defense system (you may have heard Russian President Putin’s aggressive reaction to this earlier this week). Moreover, it is extremely hard for most Czechs to get visas to visit America, while it is never a problem for Americans to come here. Most people are probably more upset about that than the military base.

Regardless, Bush has very few supporters here – fortunately no one holds it against us that we’re Americans.

Isn’t it amazing? George Bush and Angelina Jolie in our fantastic city at the same time? What influence they carry! One, a master of international diplomacy and foreign relations, a gifted speaker, and respected by millions of people around the world; the other…well, is George Bush.

Dinner and a Bonus

We went out to eat with Miss Angela tonight to a local Italian place. In addition to enjoying the awesome food, we were treated to something unique. An older man walking by with his dog stopped, picked up his dog, reached in his pocket, and pulled out a harmonica. Then this happened... (it may take a while to load - I think it's worth it)

Prague is never boring.

4 years old and lovin' it

Lucy's friend Zara came over after school today, and the girls had a great time together - baking cookies, dressing up, watching TV... ya know, stuff like that.

Faith Community Worship

We've had some great times of worship at church, led by our very talented worship band. Ondra is amazing at guitar (and fiddle), Dot and Elizabeth can belt out the tunes, and newly-arrived Luke added some nice percussion with the egg-shaker on Sunday. (Yes, this picture was slightly posed)

These guys did a fantastic offertory song yesterday - "The Word" by Sara Groves, which was a fitting song for our sermon on John 1 - the Word. Very moving!

First Real Cookout

We've used the grill a couple times already, but last night's cookout was definitely the first real test of my rusty grilling technique. Fortunately, we had some incredible steak and chicken, which was hard to mess up. We also had some new patio furniture to break in.
And everytime I think how big Clark is getting, he continues to amaze me with the little spaces he can fit his body into.
Clark already likes Lauren...

The New Summer Team

Meet our five summer interns - from left to right we have Amanda, Luke, Brian, Drew, and Lauren.

This is the "before" picture - we'll see how they look after two months with us. We're excited they're here - they've already brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm to us. And it only took 5 hours for them to blow a fuse!

We had a fun cookout last night for the whole team - here we all are!
We'll have to update this in, oh, about 3 weeks when the Stewarts get here...

Team Dinner

We had a fun team dinner 2 nights ago, jointly celebrating 2 years of being in Prague and our last night of just the 5 of us adults. Our 5 summer interns arrived the next day, and Mark and Joanna Stewart are set to arrive sometime this month! The team is growing - yay!
