Easter Brunch
We almost had a White Easter yesterday, with temperatures in the mid 30s and a mix of rain and snow most of the day. But that didn't stop the Easter bunny from visiting our house, nor us hosting an Easter brunch in the morning. We started the morning with an assessment of what the big bunny left the kids - Lucy and Clark were quite pleased, and operation "Jacked up on Sugar" commenced.
Lots of friends came over with lots of incredible food - the ladies were looking lovely and pastel-ly.
We had a cold but fun Easter egg hunt in the backyard - the Falk kids offered their egg-hunting services to the smaller kids. It was a fairly dignified hunt - I only saw one elbow thrown the whole time.
Did Jan Hus play basketball?
Saturday was part 2 of Phil's Hussite seminar - we hit 5 or 6 big sites in Prague, and Phil did a superb job making it all come alive. Our kids even managed to have a good time as we walked around the city - Easter gingerbread cookies certainly helped keep their energy up.
After that we went to Tim's basketball game and Clark got to try on Mr. Zach's football helmet. We're thinking of getting him one for daily use, since he has been stuntman-in-training these days.

Church Update
We've been doing other things, besides taking pictures of Piper. We've had a fun-filled month at church, especially this week as we gear up for Easter. We had a community dinner after church last week at the Syvertsens' house, and almost everyone went after the service to hang out, eat food, and watch this insignificant basketball game called the ACC championship.

Last night was the first of a 2-part series that our own Phil Haberkern taught on the History of the Hussite church. Phil (affectionately called "Smart Phil" by some, apparently to differentiate between him and me) is here in Prague with his wife Danielle on a Fullbright scholarship with University of Virginia, where he's studying and writing about the early formation of the Hussties in the early 1400s.
His lecture was simply the best presentation on Hus and his importance to Prague that I've heard - Phil is going to make a fantastic professor, able to communicate facts in a dynamic, engaging way. We had a full house last night, too, with about 50 people in attendance - many from outside our church.
Afterwards several of us went to a nearby restaurant for dinner, and Phil got to recover. Today is part 2, a walking tour around some of the major sites that Phil mentioned last night.

School Bake Sale, featuring Spiderman
Yesterday was Lucy's school Easter bake sale, with lots of yummy goodies and dozens of ways for parents to drop 10 crowns here, 20 crowns there - egg decorating, games, and face-painting. Clark had more fun than anyone. The school posted some pictures - check out Clark in this link...

afternoon fun
Clark and Piper had some fun afternoon time together... Clark LOVES his little sister and is such a big helper. He is always the first one to help whenever Piper's "me" falls out and just in general enjoys hugging and being with her (and Lucy).

Celebrating Shanna
Besides our cute little family, Shanna's girlfriends wanted to take her out for a fun birthday dinner, which they did on Friday. (I didn't go, but it looks like Shanna's near the back, on the right) - stolen from Sunny's blog, which holds no intellectual copyright laws as far as I know
These ladies have made a huge influence on Shanna's life this last year, and I would argue that it's quite reciprocal. I constantly hear that the Women's Bible studies have been wonderful times of encouragement, prayer, learning, and fellowship - due largely to Shanna's leadership of them. I know Shanna doesn't consider herself a great leader or deep theologian, but it's much more than that which makes a fruitful ministry - Shanna's ability to love people wherever they're at, be honest and open, and her life of worship are wonderful strengths that make her a beautiful woman. I'm honored to call her my friend AND my wife!

Mommy's Special day
Saturday was Shanna's big day! It started with a little hunt for her presents and the annual silly song presentation - this year was "If I had a million dollars..." Then we sent her off to a massage (she called it "glorious") and some shopping. She returned in time for us to have some pre-dinner birthday cake and get ready and go out for Mexican dinner. Lastly we had dessert at, yes, Starbucks. We had a great day celebrating Mommy!
